The annual Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) Principal Partner Day was back in person this year for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, matching over 30 community leaders with MPS principals for a half-day shadowing opportunity in their schools.
Participants first gathered at Hall STEM Academy for an introduction to the day, where they received welcomes from Hall STEM Academy Principal Sherrill Lindsey and STEM coordinator Joel Halvorson, Achieve CEO Danielle Grant and MPS Interim Superintendent Rochelle Cox. Two students also shared highlights of some of their recent school science projects.
Participants then went to their individual schools to accompany principals for a wide variety of activities - from classroom visits and team meetings to student conversations and much more - to get a taste of their daily challenges and achievements and see how hard they work to ensure that their staff and students succeed.
After their in-school time, several participants then joined Achieve CEO Danielle Grant and Superintendent Rochelle Cox for a lunch and debrief at the MPS Davis Center, where they reported back on highlights of their experiences, their perspectives on the challenges facing public education, and opportunities for our community to get more engaged to support our schools.
Achieve Twin Cities is honored to partner with the district for this annual event. Our tremendous thanks to this year's principals and community leaders for investing time to build these new connections and relationships!
