Human Resources Assistant
Position Overview
We're seeking a new human resources assistant to support various human resources tasks and initiatives, using a people-centered lens to help nurture a positive organizational climate and culture. This new position will report to the Achieve Twin Cities people & culture generalist. Priority is given to applications received by September 27.

Twin Cities youth are our emerging leaders – talented, capable and ready to learn. We believe in the power of career and postsecondary readiness to enable young people to imagine and live rewarding lives, and we prioritize services for our students who face systemic barriers to access. 65% of Minneapolis Public Schools students are youth of color, 58% are eligible for free or reduced priced lunch, and over 100 different languages are spoken in the district. In Saint Paul Public Schools, 80% of students identify as non-white, 70% are eligible for free and reduced priced lunch, and over 110 languages and dialects are spoken in the district.
Duties and Responsibilities
Employee Hiring, Onboarding, and Offboarding Assistance
- Execute administrative duties, including drafting letters and collecting necessary paperwork
- Support organizational recruiting and hiring processes, including job postings, collection and organization of application materials, interview scheduling, candidate communication, and onboarding
- Monitor processes and checklists for each hire and separation, and execute assigned onboarding and offboarding tasks, including but not limited to:
- Creating and updating employee records internally and externally
- Collecting and processing required paperwork
- Updating staff webpages
General Human Resources (HR) Administration
- Field questions from employees, including managing the HR team email inbox and directing inquiries to the appropriate HR resources
- Support the people and culture generalist in administering the HRIS (human resources information system) and benefit portals
- Maintain all employee records and personnel files
- Maintain confidentiality of all HR-related information
- Complete employment verifications
- Provide back-up support to people and culture generalist as needed
Climate and Culture Support
- Support HR initiatives aimed at improving employee engagement and retention
- Build and maintain relationships across all staff, and keep a pulse on staff needs and satisfaction levels
- Assist with employee recognition
Serve as a Member of the Operations Team
- Support organization-wide strategic goals
- Support the operations team’s annual priorities
- Maintain up-to-date expertise and knowledge related to job functions
- Maintain confidentiality
- Provide backup coverage for operations colleagues as necessary
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience
Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- At least one year of experience in customer service in an administrative role
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusivity and collaborative processes
- Ability to work well with people, processes, policies and data
- Commitment to Achieve Twin Cities mission, vision and values
- Ability to work well with people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
Preferred:
- Experience working in a human resources or equivalent confidential environment
- Nonprofit employment experience
- Familiarity with administering HRIS and benefit portals
- Comfort and proficiency with technology
- Experience in building connections and healthy group culture, especially in groups with staff in multiple satellite locations
- Due to the timeliness of attention needed, we prefer candidates who can work a schedule of five days per week, part-time days (rather than longer hours and fewer days per week)
Compensation and Benefits
- $24.00 - $28.00 starting hourly rate, depending on experience, with opportunity for compensation increases based on an annual performance review and to reflect pay parity across the organization.
- Part-time, non-exempt position. Average schedule of 20 hours per week, with fluctuations as needed.
- 18 paid holidays including three floating holidays and four summer Fridays, 18 vacation days in year one (with increases based on length of employment), up to 10 sick days per year, and additional paid leave options for bereavement, compassionate leave, parental leave, and more. Hours are pro-rated for part-time employees.
- Eligible for annual professional development funds and 403(b) retirement plan. Other benefits (medical, health savings account, flexible spending account, dental, vision, life, etc.) are only available for regular employees working 30 or more hours per week.
- Flexible schedule in a hybrid work environment (some in-office days required regularly).
