Employer and Volunteer Engagement (EVE) Coordinator
Position Overview
The Employer and Volunteer Engagement (EVE) Coordinator manages a portfolio of employer partner companies, leading recruitment and training for employers and volunteers, and developing and executing engagement plans to effectively support our youth-facing career experience programming and our Step Up Level 2 internship programming. The EVE coordinator must be skilled in communicating with corporate and other employer partners (including C-suite executives), and well-versed in student needs, as they will play a crucial role in training employers and volunteers in student-centered volunteer work and mentorship, This role will be responsible for developing Step Up Level 2 internship jobs, recruiting employers to host interns, and supporting them throughout the internship experience. This coordinator will be responsible for creating a diverse and engaged pool of volunteers and employers who are aligned with our mission of supporting young people in identifying their future career path. This position reports to the Program Manager for External Engagement.
As a key part of Achieve’s new and evolving programming, these responsibilities will be re-evaluated and adjusted as needed as our program model and partnership needs become clearer and more defined. Priority is given to applications received by Monday, August 4.
About Step Up
The Step Up Youth Employment Program prepares today’s youth for tomorrow’s careers by recruiting, training and placing more than 1,300 Minneapolis young people (ages 14-21) in paid internships each year with over 100 Twin Cities employers, from Fortune 500 companies and small businesses to public agencies and nonprofits. As one of the nation’s leading youth employment programs, Step Up leverages a collective spanning 15 industries and multiple sectors. Step Up has provided over 35,000 internships since 2003, yielding a competitive talent pipeline, a stronger economy and millions of dollars in wages for Step Up interns. Step Up is a partnership of the City of Minneapolis, Achieve Twin Cities, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, and Project for Pride in Living.
The Young People We Serve
Step Up supports historically underrepresented Minneapolis youth who are ready to navigate the professional world. Step Up interns are the leaders of tomorrow, the talent that will power our region and reflect the global fluency of our communities. Nearly 86 percent of Step Up interns are youth of color, and more than 50 percent come from immigrant families. Our recent interns were born in over 15 countries and speak more than eight unique languages.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead ongoing engagement and relationship management of volunteers and employers in Achieve’s pool of employer and volunteer network
- Lead ongoing relationship management with a portfolio of key partner companies, ensuring ongoing care and feeding of the partnership alongside personalized support as needed
- Develop consistent and ongoing engagement opportunities and touch points with our existing pool of volunteers and employers
- Build a cycle of engagements for employers and volunteers before, during, and after their work with us to keep them in our network and provide multiple opportunities and types of engagements with Achieve and youth
- Create opportunities for peer support and networking between volunteers and employers to support effective work with youth and build community around our collective work
- Build a system of recognition and appreciation for employers and volunteers who engage with our youth
Lead recruitment, preparation and matching of employers to develop and secure Step Up Level 2 internship jobs
- Working with our current network of employers, create and execute a plan to recruit and secure job commitments in accordance with our contractual agreements
- Work with individual employers to create meaningful paid internship opportunities that meet the needs of high school students
- Create and lead a series of trainings for Step Up supervisors that build on each other and prepare them to effectively supervise and mentor youth
- Work with employers to establish logistical elements of jobs, including pay, required HR steps, age and qualification requirements, accommodations, etc.
- Act as a key point of contact during the Step Up summer internships for portfolio employers, ensuring issues are addressed and support is present as needed
- Lead the collection of data on employer/supervisor experience and employer outcomes
Recruit employers and volunteers in support of all Achieve and partner Career & College Readiness Programming
- Develop a robust and innovative employer and volunteer recruitment plan, including multiple outreach methods to bring more individuals and companies into Achieve’s and our partners’ programming
- Promote full breadth of youth career engagement opportunities that employers and individuals can participate in, both those facilitated by Achieve and those led by our partners
- Understand the needs and interests of potential volunteers and employers and help match them to best-fit youth-facing opportunities
- Support the development, maintenance, and updating of employer recruitment and promotional materials
- Ensure a diversity of identities, fields, and types of careers represented in our employer and volunteer pool, with a particular focus on those with shared lived experiences with the majority of Twin Cities youth
- Build and maintain a robust employer and volunteer “pool” who are interested in and prepared to work with youth
- Track employer and volunteer recruitment data accurately in Achieve and partner data systems as required
Lead development and delivery of employer and volunteer training and preparation for supporting young people through career experiences and internships
- In collaboration with the external engagement manager and the program strategy manager, design a series of trainings and preparation steps to effectively prepare volunteers and employers to work with young people, with a particular focus on cultural competency, mentorship, and growth mindset
- Create customized trainings and supports for specific types of youth career experiences to prepare volunteers for specific experience needs and parameters
- Create and maintain a system for gathering feedback on employer and volunteer experiences (both from the adults and the young people) to inform training and supports and to highlight any individual issues for attention
- Provide real-time or personalized support for employers or volunteers as needed
Qualifications and Experience
Required:
- Commitment to Achieve Twin Cities mission, vision and values
- Ability to work well with people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or reasonable equivalent experience
- Commitment to anti-racism and increasing equity in access to all postsecondary opportunities
- 2+ years of experience with recruiting and managing volunteers, ideally in support of youth programming
- Experience cultivating and building relationships with public, private, and nonprofit partners
- Experience working with high school youth, ideally in an internship or high school setting
- Current knowledge and experience in career-readiness, career and technical education, and youth workforce development
- Ability to engage with diverse audiences across many employment sectors (particularly with adults who share identities and experiences with the youth we serve)
- Comfortable taking initiative and identifying new opportunities
- Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills
- Strong public presentation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience working collaboratively as part of a team
- Experience tracking and monitoring data and using data to inform work
Preferred:
- Experience managing volunteer engagement records with Salesforce or a similar CRM
- Experience with developing and delivering high school internship programming
- Understanding of effective volunteer engagement cycles
Compensation and Benefits
- $60,000 - $67,350 starting salary, depending on experience, with opportunity for compensation increases based on an annual performance review and to reflect pay parity across the organization.
- Regular full-time, exempt position
- 18 paid holidays including 3 floating holidays and 4 summer Fridays, 18 vacation days in year one (with increases based on length of employment), up to 10 sick days per year, and additional paid leave options for bereavement, compassionate leave, parental leave, and more. Hours are prorated for part-time employees.

- We offer a flexible schedule in a hybrid work environment that includes partial remote work.
