All about the AMP career event

Edison High School in Northeast Minneapolis is seeking career networking volunteers from diverse communities and fields to share their career journeys and insights at the second annual ‘Achieving My Potential’ (AMP) career event for 11th and 12th grade students!

This event will take place at Edison on April 19 from 11:45 a.m. – 2 p.m. It will kick off with a career panel followed by a networking lunch where volunteers will share a meal with Edison students and enjoy in-depth, one-on-one conversations about day-to-day life in their career fields, required training, opportunities to get hands-on experience, and how to take the next steps to learn more.

Volunteers must arrive by 11:45 a.m. and stay through 2 p.m.

We are seeking diverse volunteers!

AMP was created in 2022 to strengthen Edison’s college and career-going culture for BIPOC students by partnering with professionals who represent their identities and cultural backgrounds.

To that end, we are once again seeking volunteers from diverse career fields who also reflect the racial, ethnic, and spoken-language identities of our students. Participating students come from these communities:

  • Black/African American with English language heritage: ~45%
  • Black/African American with Somali language heritage: ~26%
  • Indigenous: ~6%
  • Latino/a: ~21%
  • Asian: ~2%

Preferred career fields

This event also honors student voice by focusing on the careers our young people have expressed the greatest interest in exploring, which include:

  • Doctors / nurses / health care professionals
  • Lash technicians / cosmetologists
  • Social workers / mental health professionals
  • Entrepreneurs
  • Detectives / investigators
  • Student athletes
  • Fashion designers / models
  • Community organizers / politicians
  • Musicians / artists
  • Religious leaders
