Dear friends of Achieve Twin Cities -
This has been an incredibly difficult and painful time for our community: the tragic murder of Renee Good by an ICE agent, the serious ICE disturbance outside Roosevelt High School that harmed staff and students, the two-day closure of MPS schools due to safety concerns, and ongoing harassment, abductions and violence at the hands of ICE agents in our cities.
Our students and families are experiencing fear, isolation, economic hardship and trauma. Many are afraid to leave their homes. For young people who are simply trying to learn, plan their future and feel safe in their communities, this moment is overwhelming.
Achieve Twin Cities stands in unwavering solidarity with our refugee and immigrant communities, and with all people who are at risk of being targeted or harmed. These are our neighbors and colleagues, our students and educators, our families and friends.
At the heart of Achieve’s mission is our core commitment to building a more just, prosperous and inclusive community—one where every student has the resources, guidance and support they need to reach their full potential and lead with confidence.
In these difficult days, the Achieve team is laser-focused on providing additional in-person and virtual career and college planning support, resources and connections for students in Minneapolis and Saint Paul public high schools.
We are also working closely with our school partners to respond to the urgent needs of students whose families are navigating today’s frightening realities.
We urge all Minnesotans—neighbors, community leaders, employers, and allies—to stay informed and take meaningful action to support the safety and well-being of our students and families:
- ⚖️ Know your legal rights and stay safe
- 👀 Learn how to become an observer outside schools and other community locations
- 🧡Find ways to provide mutual aid support for families who are afraid to leave home
- 🌍Support immigrant and refugee organizations working to ensure safety and dignity
- 📣 Contact your elected officials and urge action to stop ICE-related violence and harm
- 🏢 Explore how your business can become a 4th Amendment Workplace, using legally vetted protocols to protect employees regardless of immigration status
- ✊Participate in the state-wide Day of Truth and Action / ICE Out Day of No School, No Work, No Shopping on Friday, January 23
Your voice, your presence and your actions matter. Join us to stand alongside our students and families and work for a future rooted in justice, compassion and opportunity for all.
With hope and gratitude,
