What does a career in education look like beyond the traditional classroom?
That’s the question Nora Guerin, our Career and College Center Coordinator at Edison High School, recently explored as a panelist for “Beyond the Classroom: Education-Adjacent Career Paths,” hosted by the University of Minnesota College of Liberal Arts. Alongside other education professionals, Nora spoke with college students interested in making an impact in education through roles that go beyond teaching.
Although Nora holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, she has spent her professional career helping high school students plan for life after graduation. She began this work at the American Indian OIC Career Immersion High School before joining the Achieve team in 2006 as a work-based learning coordinator at North Community High School and Washburn High School. In that role, she taught work-readiness skills and partnered with educators and employers to create work opportunities for students.
In 2009, Nora became the Career and College Center Coordinator at Edison High School, where she has spent the past 16 years providing one-on-one guidance to help students discover their strengths, explore options and plan meaningful careers.
Nora is part of an Achieve program team with deep experience helping students develop and pursue postsecondary plans aligned with their education, career and life goals - including licensed school counselors, social workers, admissions experts, educators, youth workers and other professionals who have spent years supporting young people. Many are also graduates of the schools we serve or were the first in their families to attend college, bringing personal insight and passion to their work with students every day.
There are countless ways to make an impact in education, and we’re proud to have colleagues like Nora helping the next generation explore those possibilities.
